Gallatin County Football Team Rules

We are happy that your child has decided to be a part of the Gallatin County football program. The coaching staff and I are excited to get the season started. Listed below are some rules and expectations that your child must follow in order for us to have a successful season. See the back for the consequences of breaking a rule. Also, please sign the attached sheet and return it with your son ASAP.

1. Attendance - Attendance is essential to the improvement and success of this team. We expect each player to attend every practice, game, or team function on time. I understand that students will have legitimate reasons to miss practice. Absences caused by illness, injury, a death in the family, or family emergencies will be considered excused absences. The player will have extra conditioning for excused absences. This is not punishment, but the player will need to make up the conditioning they missed in order to stay in shape. If for some reason your child will be absent please call and let me know. If your child is late to practice he will be expected to do extra conditioning unless he has talked to a coach prior to the practice. Absences, excused or not, may result in loss of playing time.

Unexcused absences will not be tolerated. The first two unexcused absences will result in extra conditioning, and the player will possibly sit out some or all of the next game. If your child has 3 unexcused absences he will be dismissed from the team.

2. Playing Time - Every person on the team wants to start, and play the whole game. Unfortunately, that is impossible. We will give every player an opportunity to earn their playing time. Playing time will be based on attendance, dedication, attitude, effort, knowledge of the plays, and talent. The coaching staff will be as fair as possible in regards to playing time. If a parent has any complaints about playing time or anything else related to this team they should talk directly to Coach Browning.

3. Academics - Education must come first. Any student who is not willing to work in the classroom should not be out for football. Once school starts I will check each student’s grades, in addition to their behavior, weekly. Monitoring of players will not end when our season is over. I will continue to check on grades/behavior throughout the year.

4. Behavior - Each player will treat their parents, teachers, coaches, and teammates with respect. We expect every player to be on their best behavior on the football field, as well as off.

5. Attitude - Football is the toughest sport your child will play. If their heart is not in it then they shouldn’t play. I am going to play kids who are going to hustle every play, and who are going to listen to instruction.

Consequences of Breaking Rules

We are building a quality football program here at Gallatin County. To be a part of this team each player must make sacrifices and behave respectfully both on the field and off. The consequences listed below were created by the coaching staff. Each situation is different, so the coach may have to use his own discretion in enforcing these rules. If a player has several behavioral problems he may be suspended from games or be dismissed from the team.

Attendance

Tardy: Conditioning -The player will run for each minute that they are late,
unless they are more than 30 minutes late. In this case the player will run
1 mile.
Excused Absence/Event: Conditioning - 1 mile
Unexcused Absence: Conditioning - 1 mile and a half

Behavior

In School: Any teacher complaints, ISS, detentions, etc. will result in conditioning (1 bear crawl or roll around field). If the player’s grades do not improve he will stay after school and spend practice time making up the work. The player will then have to run for missing the practice. Also, if a player asks to take a test after school he will have to run for being tardy to practice, unless it is excused by Coach Browning.

Suspension – Conditioning and Possible dismissal from team (Coach’s Discretion)
More than one suspension – Automatic Dismissal from Team

Grades: Players must pass at least 5 out of 7 classes. If not they are put on academic probation for one week. If the player’s grades come up they are allowed to resume practice the next week. If not, they are still on probation. Multiple weeks on academic probation may result in dismissal from the team.

On Field: Fighting during a game will result in a one game suspension.
If the coach feels that a player is behaving inappropriately he will take him
out for the remainder of the game.

On Bus: Any misbehavior on the bus - 1 bear crawl or roll around the field

Drugs/Alchohol: Drugs and alcohol will not be tolerated on this team. Players who are found to be using drugs or alcohol will be suspended from the school/team and may be dismissed from the team.

Thank you,

Coach Browning
